Should You get the iPhone 4 or 4S?

By  |

Are you finally ready to take the plunge and buy an iPhone? Maybe you’ve been holding out for years, only getting the cheapest phone — or a free one — every time your contract is up for renewal. Or maybe you’ve been an iPhone fan from the phone’s very first generation, but you’re trying to decide whether or not you should upgrade to the iPhone 4 or 4S.

While you might think the phones are pretty similar, there are actually some major differences between the two phones, not to mention that there’s a $100 range in price.

Whatever your case, here is a breakdown of the differences between the iPhone 4 and 4S to help you make your decision.

Processor and Browsing Speed

One of the major differences between the 4 and the 4S is the difference in processing chips. The iPhone 4S includes a dual-core A5 chip, while the iPhone 4 only has an A4 chip. In layman’s terms, that means the iPhone 4S has much faster processing speeds than the iPhone 4.

Additionally, the iPhone 4S is 4G, while the iPhone 4 is only 3G. So you’ll get much faster Internet browsing speeds if you go with the 4S. However, if you’re not constantly surfing the web on your phone, then maybe a fast processor and browsing speed don’t matter as much to you.

Camera Features

Another major difference between the 4 and 4S is the quality of the phone’s built-in camera. The 4S has an eight megapixel camera and face detection, while the 4 has a much lower five megapixel camera. If you love taking pictures and sharing them on Facebook or other social networking sites, then a better camera might matter more to you.

The good news is that the camera in both the 4 and the 4S is a major upgrade over the iPhone 3, featuring an LED flash, backside illumination sensor, four-element lens and front camera with VGA resolution. Whichever choice you make, the iPhone will take great pictures that you can share with your family and friends.

All About Siri

Perhaps the biggest difference of all between the 4S and 4 is that the 4S has Siri, a built-in assistant to help you keep your life in order. You can ask Siri a variety of questions, from where the nearest coffee shop is to what the weather forecast is for the day. Additionally, Siri can help you schedule appointments, set reminders to yourself and send text messages totally hands-free. Say you need to find a location to buy a diesel generator in Riverside, CA or a business that provides forklift rentals in San Diego, CA. All you have to do is activate Siri and ask where to find them.
