How to Set Location Based Reminders on Your iPhone
The iPhone uses your cellular data connection alongside an internal global positioning system to pinpoint your exact location as you travel throughout your day. One thing that many iPhone users don’t realize is that they can actually set location-based reminders for various tasks using Siri, the iPhone’s voice control feature. If you need to remember to do something when you get home from work, for example, you can tell Siri what you need to remember and where you’ll need it. Siri will then use the iPhone’s GPS to remind you of exactly what you requested when you reach your destination.
Turn on your iPhone and unlock the “Home” screen by sliding your finger across the surface of your device. Once the “Home” screen is revealed, open the native “Reminders” application to continue.
Tap the “New Reminder” button in the upper right corner of the “Reminders” application window. When the window labeled “New Reminder” opens, use the iPhone’s virtual keyboard to type a name for your reminder in the window on screen. Tap the “More” button when it appears next to the listing for your new reminder to continue.
Tap the option labeled “At a Location.” The box below the “At a Location” entry will automatically fill with either the address of your current location or an address nearby. If the address in incorrect relative to your location, or if you want to enter a different address from the place where you currently are, tap the box and correct the information listed on screen.
If you want to be reminded of a particular event when you leave the specified location, tap the button labeled “When I Leave.” If you want to be reminded of a particular event when you arrive at the specified location, tap the button labeled “When I Arrive.” A check mark will appear next to your selection.
Once you’ve made your selection, tap the button labeled “Done” to finish setting up your location reminder.
To have Siri use location-based reminders, press and hold the “Home” button on the bottom of your device until you hear a dinging noise. The Siri voice command box will appear automatically from the bottom of your screen.
Say the words “Remind Me,” followed by the event that you want to be reminded of. Once finished, say the words that will identify exactly where you want your reminder to occur. If you want to be reminded to pick up milk when you get to the store, for example, say “Remind me to pick up milk when I get to the store.” If you want to be reminded to turn the air conditioner off when you get home, for example, say the words “Remind me to turn the air conditioner off when I get home.” When your iPhone reaches the location you specified, the Siri feature will automatically remind you of the event you entered.
